Cindy, there's a fairly quick way of checking your focus. Put your camera on a tripod, and place a detailed target (say a open book with fine printing) about 6 ft. away from the camera. Make sure the surface of the printed page is square (ie, at 90-degrees) to the line to the camera. Make sure the light is even and not changing. Turn your IS/VR off (that's the lens image stabilization, if you have it). Turn your AF on the lens to manual. Put your shooting mode dial to Av (Aperture-priority). Set your aperture to wide open. Use your live-view screen to manually focus on the target text (use the 10x zoom on live-view to assist). Take a picture. Now, turn your lens AF switch to AF. Enable ONLY your center AF point. Don't change anything else. Let the camera find focus itself, aiming at exactly the same point you've used in the manual case. Take another picture. Now bring both into the computer and look at the center point that you focused on in both images. If the the first is sharp and the second is not, then the AF is not exactly right. If neither is sharp, there are other issues.

That is one thing I like about my Nikon D7000,it has fine tune adjustments for focus and fine tune adjustment for exposure.

they both look blurry to me, but the second does appear a bit clearer
