compact cameras

I am wanting to buy a compact digital camera for up to £ 400 or perhaps a little more.

I want to be able to print images up to A1 size.... this is essential

I would appreciate a decent zoom facility ... this is desirable.

What can you recommend?

I'm not sure what you're looking for is possible. To print A1 at 300 dpi, you need a 70 MP camera, and you want that in a £400 compact zoom camera.

You don't need 300 PPI to make an excellent print, especially at that size. A compact with a 1" sensor that saves 5xxx to 6xxx pixel wide images should be able to handle it as long the original image is sharp. That would give you print output at A1 of approx. 150 PPI and that should suffice.

So a 30+MP compact for $400? Again, not possible. The closest to it is a 29MP Sigma quattro for $800.
