Compact Flash card life?

Anyone know how long you can expect to capture quality images from a Compact Flash Card? I have been using the same card for several years now and have never had a problem. Will they eventually wear out and how will I know when to quit using the card?

I am just guessing that you should get something like several thousand formats out of one.

flash memory is not a constant. Everytime you delete something off of the card, there is slightly less memory left on the card.
