Compact flash card - Nikon Coolpix 8400

I'm a new Nikon Coolpix 8400 owner. If anyone can offer advice on what
brand of CF card to purchase I'll appreciate it. The number of brands and lines within brands is confusing. Also, what are the tradeoffs of buying two 512mb cards versus one 1gb card? My requirements aren't those of a pro but I want reasonable performance reliability.

Any major brand name card will work and preform well in your camera. A faster speed of the card will let your pic write to the card faster and let you take more pics faster, but at a higher price. Two 512 cards equal a one gig card obviously. But, if a card fails (not likely) you would loosw only half your images if using the small card. And they are often cheaper than the larger capacity card. I have several generic "no name" cards, a few Lexar, a Kodak, and a handfull of sandisk cards. All have performed equally over the past several years.
