Comparison-depth of field

I need to figure out on my lens where the sweet spot is for a deeper depth of field. Obviously, f32 is not it. I had a brain fart while I was shooting.

Either way, which one do you like better? And if I had a third with a better in focus background, would you like that?

I prefer #1 as far as Depth Of Field goes. It makes the wheel in the foreground stand out on it's own. A "sweet spot" would be hard to determine for DOF as the distance from the camera to subject and subject to background is never the same unless taking the same shot as above.

Hardly a fair comparison. If you're examining lens specs like that for max DOF, everything in frame should be in focus at infinity.
