Complete Brain Farts

So I was trying to get my SB-800 into remote mode via the custom menu. So I am pressing the mode and select button and nothing was happening. So I kept trying and trying. I took the batteries out, reset the settings, tried everything. So I ended up going online to see if there was an issue that I was causing the menu not to work. Turns out I just needed to hold down the select button. The kicker is that I had done it 1,000 times before and for some reason my brain just went bye-bye for a few minutes.

Anyone have similar "duh" moments?

Well, in terms of photography, there was that whole 'left the yellow filter on when shooting color' brain fart of mine. And I did it again just about a month ago! At least this time I realized it after only 3-4 frames.

And a couple of weeks ago, I locked my keys in the car. Stared right at them sitting on the bag on the driver's side seat as I closed the locked door. I've been driving for 26 years and I don't remember ever locking my keys in the car.

I have them all the time. They usually have to do with school though.

Most of the time, they have something to do with one of two things: lens cap, or power switch. Yes, sometimes I forget to both turn on the camera and take off the lens cap. Still.

Yeah, last week. Just testing out a rental lens and decided to use the pop-up flash (because I was feeling far too lazy to get my other flash set up). Picture came out totally dark. Tried again, nothing. Checked my shutter speed and it was fine. Nothing I did would make the stupid thing fire. I was kicking myself for not testing it earlier, because I was suddenly certain that this was related to the accident (the camera had been in the passenger front seat and that airbag also deployed).

It took FAR longer than I'd really like to admit to realize that I just had the popup set to Commander mode in the menu.

I hardly call ANY failed interaction with the menu system on an SB800 a duh moment. The interface to get that thing into remote mode is insane.

Ah. Virtual reality then.

As for brain farts, I ain't working hard unless I get at least one every five minutes. Fortunately, I am surrounded by family that will take away all the sharp things, or things that have electricity in them, or things that can go "boom". That allows me to enjoy another day on this planet.

I had a brain fart when I bought 2 SB-800s. Ahh .. but they are nice flashes and the remote feature is so simple .. did I say that ?

I had a brain fart when I bought 2 SB-800s. Ahh .. but they are nice flashes and the remote feature is so simple .. did I say that ?

When the flash manual is the same size as the camera manual, maybe it's time to rethink the UI.

When the flash manual is the same size as the camera manual, maybe it's time to rethink the UI.

Or just don't read the manual :lmao:

I totally understand. The SB-600 I had before I think was worse than the 800s

The 700 and 900 are so much easier except my fat fingers can't push the on button and rotate that small selector switch to get to remote mode without having to use 2 fingers.

My 800s are always on remote. I save the 700 for on camera for those rare occassions
