If I want to sell my photos, framed, to people at sales, should I put a copyright or a signature on it somewhere so people can't copy my pictures? Where should I put it so it's not distracting?

First, if someone really wants to copy your image, they will find a way to do it. Many photographers put a stamp that says "do not copy" on the back. This helps if the person brings it to a photo place, but does not stop those with a scanner at home. Using a textured finish can make scanning look awful for those who don't know what they are doing.

Do you really think someone is going to spend cash on a print for the sole purpose of taking it home, scanning it, and ... then what?

I sign mine, but not so people can't copy the print.

I sign mine because it adds value to the print. I have the print made so it has a white border. The border also helps for framing the print with a mat in front of the print. I have the mat window cut a bit larger than the image ,and sign the print in the white border between the image and the mat.

Do you sell the "copyright"?
If yes, the you can't put any copyright on it because they will "pay for it".
If not, then you can put the signature (don't handwrite carelessly of course, lol...).
But yes, usually the backside is the best for the print, or do it as the watermark on the edge of the picture, as the other professionals do.
