Critique on a moth

Hello everyone, I found this moth under our house while playing around with my new Sigma 70-300mm macro lens.

Please let me know what I could have done better (except re-positioning the subject!!)!

They both look a little dark (underexposed?) and the left one is mostly out of focus. On the right one, part of the wings is in focus, but the head and the area around it is not. So...what could you have done better, get the focus and exposure correct. Focus is something you can do, as far as the exposure goes, I am not sure what the exposure was on these, but you might want to try opening up a stop, or taking a slightly longer exposure.
