IN ADDITION to the comments from others, my suggestion is to open up your lens a lot so that your daughter is sharp but the background is out-of-focus and therefore does not compete with her.

Admittedly, I go to an extreme but take a peek at the shots of my grand-daughter Katie.

That's a little hard to do if the subject is right up against the background.
