babies are people too....

nice shot, sharp, great connection with the subject.

Now trim off all that excess distracting crap around her, tone down the bright colors in the background and its a keeper.

Thanks!! :) I tried hard for that one and I love shooting kids (bang) JK...Good advice about the colors. They are distracting to the eye.

IMO, the most important thing is to get rid of the distractions by cropping closer.
Then select the bright colors, bring down the contrast and the brightness and even desaturate them a bit so they don't pull the eye.

sorry, removed picture

editing my pictures eh? hehe

i see what you mean. hmmm

so as far as the picture as a whole, i really like the idea of a scene and setting. yes it just a picture of the baby but with the elements it has in it and the child in the back watching on, i feel those elements invoke some imagination especially given the expression of the main subject. i also did want the main subject to be the focus and not have the eyes wander too much around so i cut down the saturation n the scene using the touch up brush being careful not to over edit or even lose saturation in the subject but left the crop the same.

part of why i also dont like the crop is that i dont like to have "unknown" objects in my pictures. I dont want people wondering, "i wonder whats back there". i feel that if the picture has less distraction, then the viewer will be able to soak in all the picture has to offer.

*rant* lol

You are right.

The original image is underexposed, lacks contrast, has poor composition and has lots of distracting elements. Put simply, it's a snap shot. With proper editing, it could be a bit more. Of course, the OP deserves the right to stop experienced people from editing it and showing how mediocrity can become decent.

However, I support everybody's right to stay mediocre and, I agree, nobody should have edited the OP's photos without their permission.

I have to side with everyone else here. The bouncy castle is distracting, even when desaturated. She is cute, which makes me want to see just her, without all that stuff around her.

I see what you're saying about wanting to know where she is, but why? She's not playing on the bouncy castle, therefore it's out of context and irrelevant. You also said you don't want people to say "What's that back there", which was the first thing I thought when I saw the photo.

I would clone the fence to get rid of the castle and the tarp under it, then crop the image to cut out the house behind the fence. The badmitten(?) racket on the ground is a distraction as well.
