Here's a photo I took with my Nikon D200 using a Nikkor 18-70mm lens.

Looks sharp to me. Do you feel that LR4 is degrading IQ?

No, just wanted some feedback, to see how my photography was with my D200 and LR4, if anything, I think it's excellent. Just seeing if there is anything I can do better.

Well, the image itself is a different story. The composition doesn't really work for me.

The ship is clipped on both the bridge wing and of course the entire rear end of the ship, yet there's also a good portion of shoreline in the shot that is equally as competitive for attention. There's not a thing in the photograph that pulls me in to keep my interest. I would have shot it with a shorter focal length to give it more depth and also show more of the ship itself.

Just my thoughts.

to continue with tyler...foreground is exceptionally cluttered, the horizon is far enough off kilter to send the ship into a dangerous list, the background is of little importance but demands the same interest. Sorry, but have to agree you missed the boat on this one.

With the clutter in the background get in closer and shoot some of the details of the ship

It's not clear what you want the viewer to look at.
The item closest to the 'power points' and that draws my eye is that blank plaque on the ship.
The DOF is so great that the background is in sharp focus, probably combination of wide angle and small aperture in bright daylight.

Although there's not too much to be said with this image, allowing editing would usually get you better and more helpful c&c

It looks decent for a 10 Megapixel image shot with a zoom lens. The background seems to be ever-so-slightly sharper than the foreground ship. The atmospheric haze is hurting overall scene detail a small amount. If this same scene had been shot with a 24- or 36-megapixel Nikon, the image would have higher overall acuity, if that is what you meant by, sort of, asking us to evaluate image quality. As far as doing something "better", perhaps using a lens that has a higher MTF would help...you know a lens that has some real, serious "bite" would improve the apparent sharpness of your photos.

What is MTF?

The only lens that might be good that I have is my 35mm. I don't have much else, nor can I afford something with serious bite other than maybe another prime like the 50mm.

Thanks all for the input I have been given some things too consider.

In terms of image quality it looks fine for a web image, but almost any camera+lens combination can do that. If you want people on the internets to actually judge the image quality, you have to give us 100% crops to look at. Clip out a piece of the original image that you think should be sharp and detailed, and post it at full resolution.

Then we can all argue and gripe about a lot of technical details that don't matter that much. Still, you'd get technical information.

The photograph itself doesn't seem to me to be anything much. It's a ship.
