Next best lens to buy for wedding photography

So without getting into all the details, i'll keep it simple.

I have a d7000, sb900, 35mm 1.8 prime, 17-50mm 2.8 tamron.

I have the funds to buy the 70-200mm 2.8 vr2, (I know some will say just save money and get the VR1, but i have to buy my lens from best buy due to credit card and gift cards, plus i do plan on upgrading to full frame possibly next year)

I'm leaning towards the VR2, but seeing as it is going to act as a 100-300mm lens on my D7000, was wondering if it was too much? and if i would be
better off with the 24-70mm, but then when i think about this lens, i figure i have the tamron 17-50 to cover some of that range.

Suggestions

Seems to me you justified the proper choice in your last sentence. You will have overlap with the 24-70 whereas the 70-200 you won't. The gap that would be left between 50-70 can be made up fairly easily by physically moving forward.

I would buy both eventually, but for you I would get the 70-200 first.

thanks, yeah not sure why i even asked, just nice to have some conformation from others at times, lol. I'll probably just have the 70-200 on my one body and the other body the 50-70, then use my prime lens for some nice detailed up close up 1.8 shots

I agree with getting the 70 - 200 1st. That is what I did too.

Have you shot a wedding yet?

Yes I have done two weddings end of last season, and have since booked 8 more so far for this season, but the first two weddings I did I used a D3100 and my prime 35mm 1.8 and the nikon 50 mm kit lens, lol. So trying to step it up a bit this year.
