What lens are you using? I have a 70-300mm macro but I can never get close enough. Did you crop these?
I use a 105VR.. And yes, they are cropped a bit. Actually, these are my first printed shots so i cropped them to fit 8x10 I would suggest getting a true macro lens in order to get 1:1 and greater
Impressive work there - I like how you have managed to get (espcially with the first wasp shot) as sense of the 3D shape within the shot! Out of interest what did you shoot these with and how (aperture?) arr getting in before me - and I agree with the advice a 70-300mm will possibly only give 1:2 ratio whilst a macro will give 1:1 ratio. The 70-300mm lenses tend to be "budget" lenses and good ones for getting a try at all things, but excelling at nothing really and often falling a little short - I find mine taunting me at times (though I have found that they make wondeful flower lenses - 300mm with macro at 1:2 is good enough to get good details on the flower whilst also blurring the background really well)
My 70-300mm has macro. It only gets 1:1 though, which is why I was asking. I need practice with lighting, however. I usually can't crop because of noise or focus issues. I'll practice some more when we go to the lake next week. We'll also be going to the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge so I'll probably get some good opportunities there.
these are great  The first one looks really cool, but the third one just looks a tad better, good stuff
I dig #4 !!!! I would dig #3 as it's a great photograph but those things make me so nervous (more than any other insect!) it's almost hard to enjoy the drama and story you captured there.
thanks for the comments! greatly appreciated. Bees used to make me nervous, but wen i saw this guy fly past me i just had to go after him
I'm just amazed at how you guys do this. If I were into bugs I would try this, but bugs creep me out. I think they are overall great shots though, really impressive.
