Surprised that none has commented yet. These are great pictures. I'd make a little book for fathers day.

I'm no portrait photographer, but these seem pretty nice based upon the variety of things I see here. Seem like decent lighting, too. I think there is a bit more dead space in a lot of them than I would like, but I also note a seemingly real connection between Dad and kid and they both seem pretty photogenic.

There is something a little weird about them to me, though... dunno... setting feels odd maybe? Dad in casual shorts and shirt and kid all gussied up? Something. Dunno.

Still, very nice.

I'd crop a bit and sharpen them and I'd say you have a win.

Sorry that I haven't checked in lately. I appreciate both responses. DSW, so funny you said that. Mom has ordered an album based on the Daddy photos for Father's day! Yay!

Manaheim, Dad origianlly just showed up for the Mommy and Daughter tea party photos, and we worked him in because he's cool too. :-) He's a great Daddy. And hey, we were there, so I wanted to do photos with him too.

I normally leave a bit of dead space if possible just in case they want to go from a 4x6 to an 8x10 crop. I hope that makes sense. But normally I kinda like a little dead space just because I personally think it's a bit more interesting in the overall photo.

Anyhoo, thanks you guys!

Dead space is fine as long as it contributes to the image, but in a lot of cases all you're doing is making your subject too small.

It's fine to leave extra space to give you more crop room, but when presenting an image like this they should be cropped for presentation. It's not in a frame, so cut it down.

Hey Cindy,

Absolutely love number 4.

There are a few of them where there is a branch that looks like it may have been in focus or just out of focus and it just seems a bit off...like number 2, the branch at the top just bugs me. Not sure why.

In any case, glad to see you posting again. Love your work.

Nice shots. Great moments. The whites look a little hot to me. Not blown out, but just very bright, considering the darkness of the surrounding greens. The contrast between the greens and the bright white just feels a bit jarring to me. I see the shirt and dress long before I see the faces. Also, they seem a little too popped off the background, maybe even cut out. Is some of the bokeh cut out and gaussian blurred in PS?
