Unfortunately he hasn't returned with a new mate after she was killed in 2023. So no cygnets in 2024, really threw a spanner in the works not being there as usual.

There are a couple of Canadian geese in a pond nearby that has snapping turtles. I thought it was odd they only had one baby duckling. A bird watcher there told me the giant grandpa snapper had eaten the ducklings. The next day there were no baby ducklings. :icon_sad:

Dam i never realised they grew so big... those 200 year old fellas could eat a horse. Was this this seasons ducklings?

Yes, new hatchlings. The grandpa snapper's head is as big as a fist and at least 50 years old I'd guess. He's not an alligator snapper as those are truly giants.

A long time ago my oldest told me he was going down to Sam Houston National Forest to go "noodling" with some friends, I told him I hoped he had some spare fingers somewhere, because catfish aren't the only thing living in the banks...
