Tonight we were just playing around.
I kept this one pretty dark to kind of cover that he's wearing my suit jacket and I may be about 80lbs fatter than him. lol

Something I think I normally woild not like...but I am actually really enjoying this edit. Also only thing is his left collar and the spot below it are a little too bright I think. Its sort of distracting and just contradicts the lighting in the rest of the image. Great picture though

You need to work on his pose. Holding that prop in an unnatural position is distracting. Just have him hold it normally. Quite bit lower, and lots more casually.

Also, have him push the hat back a bit so we see both eyes.

I find it a little hard to associate such a good looking young man and gangster in the same sentence! That said I find the part of the right hand showing distracting, maybe tone it down? I'm not sure of the sepia tone either, as I said earlier the face doesn't have the hard edge. Did you try a B&W? Maybe add a little noise to give it an old snapshot look? Last point, I understand why you darkened the body, but bringing back a little more detail in the shadows around the shoulders and hat might help.

I think you're really on to something here. I agree with most of the points. The hat definitely needs to go up over the eye just enough to see it, and I think just a little light on the hat and a bit more detail overall would benefit. OTOH, I think the pose and the position of the weapon work very well. It reminds of pictures I've seen of John Dillinger & Clyde Barrow posing for portraits.

As Tirediron mentioned, that weird 1930's style pose with a Thompson submachinegun, or a Winchester Model 1912 shotgun, or Bonnie with her ancient Remington semi-automatic 12-gauge shotgun (looks like a Browning) was "the shizz" back in the day...kinda' like 1990's gangsta's with their "held-sideways-autopistol" pose...weird, but...kind of a 'style' for its era.

You did okay considering that you had to work around the wardrobe! A little bit more info in the hat, a tiny bit of light here and there, and this will be elevated. This is a sepia-tone shot where I think some filtered dist and scratches on top might really help, to give an old-time feel. Pixlr-o-matic has some excellent old-time filters, like Sand, for free online. I've used that one and another to give a really old-printed-photograph-that's-been-around-a-long-time look. Pixlr-o-matic is fun to use.
