I think Bitter and I are of a similar mindset on this one. Your ineptness does not evoke sympathy. If you knew or suspected the battery was dead for auto-locking your vehicle AND you did not physically lock it yourself, then the responsibility is yours and yours alone. If you weren't prudent enough to have adequate insurance coverage for loss due to fire or theft, then the real ass in this situation would by vous.

People make mistakes... It doesn't seem like he's looking for sympathy, just sharing his reason behind buying a new camera. I'd think things would go more smoothly around here if some of the members got off their soap box, stopped acting like Confucius and refrained from giving life lessons. How about we end this pissing match... bury the hatchet and help the OP find some sort of resolution.

Homeowners and renters insurance may cover it with a deductible. Worth a shot. I might leave out the part about you leaving it in an unlocked car. :)

apparently some guys here never make mistakes in their lives. The battery on my keys were dead not my car so how would I suspect anything.

It is what it is... just move on. I'd like to see you get your camera back. I personally hate thieves. Stealing from a store is one thing... as bad as that is... I'd rather hear someone do that than steal from another person.

Wow, guys, I gotta say I'm kinda shocked at both of you for taking this posture.

Sorry to hear about your equipment - real bummer, when that happens.:grumpy:

Quite frankly, I would wonder if it really matters if the car door was locked or not - the fact is - it was stolen - I would still approach my insurance company and see what they have to say. I mean what is the difference between this and someone lifting your bag off an airline baggage unit, or taking it from a chair if you are in a restaurant... If you already have your own householder's, or tenant's, policy if you are renting, you might want to see if you can get a rider for your camera equipment itself. I have one on all my equipment with a value of $500 or more, and it covers all hazards, fire, theft, accidental happenings, 24/7 anywhere in the world and doesn't really cost that much, given the equipment I have.

Cheers,

WesternGuy

That's how we teach our young....... life lessons. Unless you're old enough to have some of your own at this stage in life, you may just want to sit quitely in the corner and learn a few things.

There is no resolution. The deed has been done. The OP is out a camera. What resolution do you offer? Condolences will not magically bring the gear back to the OP. Insurance is the last resort. Or perhaps we should sit in a circle and harmonize Kumbaya.

How the hell do you think that "some guys" have learned? It's usually the hard way. By being utter morons at times. When I use my remote key, I am close enough to hear a positive sound of the doors locking. If I'm further away, the second press makes the horn blast to confirm. I'm not sure how your vehicle behaves, but that second action would make me suspect if I didn't hear what I was expecting to hear.

The diffrence is They don't blame it on the keys and every other mistake they have made on somthing over than themselfs. Just a thought.
I was sad to see that bitter beat me to the punch. I was hoping I was going to get to point out you blaming somthing else AHAHAHA.
Maybe you can use your MMA moves on the theif if you find them.

Kbarredo you should definitely make sure you put whatever new equipment you get on your home/renter's insurance. I added my equipment to my renter's insurance for an additional fee each year. My equipment is covered if it is lost, stolen, or damaged.

I went from D5000 to D7000. Hate it was stolen but you'll love the D7000 after toting that 5000.

Amazing that the OP, who has a much more upbeat approach to his misfortune than some others has to listen to lectures from someone other than his own conscience. I am going to go way far out on a limb and assume that he has the part of his brain that self parents and realizes consequences and stores lessons learned.

Sorry about your loss. Don't know where you live, it might be a place that you might not suspect this kind of stealing to occur. Some people are just plain mean, rotten and nasty. In this case I am referring to the thief.

I like bigger cameras too.

You need a hobby. How about photography? Some people will do anything to say "I told you so". Give it a rest.
