Dark/Night Photo

I have a 20x30 print that was about 8MP hanging on the wall behind me. Looks fantastic up to about 3" away.

I don't get 3" from the print.

OK. NO FLASH !
Tripod.
Remote release if you have one.
Lens wide open (As close to f1.4 as it will go).
Av or better yet Manual mode.
ISO/ASA to go as far up the scale as you can get away with. (ISO 100 is sharp but will result in L O N G exposures. ISO 1600/3200 would be much better. The Noise/grain/fog is often atmospheric. So start as close to ISO 256000000 as you can, and work back wards towards ISO 0.5 until you get something that you like.

If it comes out wrong. Look at WHY it is wrong and try to correct it..
