Date imprint on old prints

This print has a date imprint in the border of Mar 71. That would mean it was taken in December 70 if that is the print date (my birthday is in December). Or it was taken in Dec 71 if imprint is the date the paper was produced. My mother says that this is my 7th birthday suggesting the latter and I think I look 7. But I thought those date imprints were the date the photo was printed suggesting the former.

The PhotoForum brain trust will know what dates imprints mean.

I agree with Sparky. I don’t think date and time imprinting to film was very common, then.

Yep....that is when the print was made. When I started working in photo labs in 1985 there were still a few labs left that still did that but were all gone by the early 90's.
