These cactus are only found in this part of the world. They are 50-75 years old before they sprout their first arm. Many of them are hundreds of years old.

These are both cool.

I've been told about the legend of Kokopelli, but don't remember it too well because it's about love and mushy stuff isn't it? But it does look like the little stud. Maybe the cactus inspired his hat?

The second is awesome! I'm pretty sure we've all seen the guy with the sombero taking a siesta, but this looks like the cactus got rid of him and took a break.

I have a great admiration for Kokopelli. A humpbacked, flute playing, fertility deity.

The second one is uber cool. Really like the laid back feeling of the main subject and his mates just "hangin' about." I think you hit it on the nail with the "appeal" of thirds.

I think with the first one, I would like to see it a bit off centered, but the color, focus and DoF are awesome.

The secone one isn't dead. It's just resting a bit.
