What's new

DEAR MODERATORS/ADMINISTRATION...

Nice photo! Next time, make sure your horizon is level and keep the Rule of Thirds in mind. I know beginners have a lot to think about, but just keep working at it, and it'll become second nature before you even know it!

Wait, was there even a picture in the thread?

I see a newbie and that's my automatic response. :lmao:

Well if you have a cable modem, unplug it for a few hours (sometimes a little more) usually it will receive a new one when you plug it back in. Unless you have a static IP (slim chance unless you're a business customer). Also if you call your ISP, and just tell them you are having an issue with your ISP, they can take that IP out and let it assign a new one.

You only have to unplug for around 30 seconds usually for the system to reset your IP.

Don't need a reason to tell you why I know that information :-P

I'll probably try in a bit if they can't get it reversed. I've been told someone is working on the issue, but I haven't gotten a chance to see if it's been fixed yet.

You can also use certain websites that will route you through their servers to act as a proxy and mask your IP.

yeah I know, but that's a pain in the ass. I don't want to have to use a proxy site every time I want to check TPF, haha.

Worse comes to worse, I'll call our ISP, but I'll be patient and wait a little for the mods to just unban my IP address. :sillysmi:

I actually tried that last night, but it didn't work. I left it unplugged for 5 minutes.

I have been with Charter Communications for 10 years. If you live in a high density area where you have 800 customers on one node, than maybe 30 seconds will do. My node has about 150 customers and rarely have any offline. I can unplug my modem for hours and I can still pull my same IP address. My ip will only be taken only when another modem comes online and the CMTS assigns it to different MAC address.

You can also force it to do it. I'm guessing you're using some kind of router (wireless or the like) in your house? Somewhere near the Status page there should be "DHCP Release" and "DHCP Renew" buttons (usually on a "WAN Status" page or something like that). If you click the DHCP Release it'll disconnect your modem from your ISP. Hit "Renew" and it'll re-connect but specifically request a new IP (or, more specifically, it'll request the DHCP server deletes your previous IP which then makes it give you a new one by default).

Yeah I'm using a wireless router.

In all honesty, I discovered that when I plugged the computer directly into the modem after unplugging it for 30 seconds, I can connect to TPF... but when I try to hook the router back into the modem and connected to TPF through a wireless connection, I get a banned IP message again.

So I think TPF is banning something within the router... and I tried to reset the router... and it still won't work. So I dunno what I could possibly do on my end.

Also... what status page are you talking about?

Just hack the mainframe.

Didn't we get rid of you yet......lol:lmao:;)

Pretty much. :biglaugh: :sexywink: :hug::

Well, we're not going where we thought we were going tonight... so now I have time to test the whole situation again to see if the Mods were able to fix it yet or not.

The site must have undergone a couple of glitches of late, as a) it ought to have been impossible for me to make this mistake, since members who have been registered for longer than 30 days cannot be banned through the "One Touch Ban and Clean" function - but somehow it did happen with "erose86"! And I couldn't do a thing to stop the process, it carried on in the background even when I thought I had stopped it. And b) terri cannot access the Admin Panel just now, which she always could. All this is really strange. Since I'm only a moderator, and have nothing whatsoever to do with the administration of these forums, I can't really do anything other than hope - together with e.rose - that my mistake can somehow be undone. Terri says a banned IP address CAN be unbanned, but only once she gets access to that panel...

That's alright! I know you guys are working on it (or trying to) and I really appreciate it :sillysmi:

Like I told you before, I have a temporary means of accessing the site (obviously), but I can't keep doing it this way or my family is going to eventually get fed up and kill me.
