Yep, been there!

I have even grabbed the card from the computer but forgot to delete the files that I uploaded.


Now I have multiple cards...

That's an easy format in camera fix. I format my cards every single time anyways.

It's an option in your camera's menu. RTFM to find out exactly how to get to it.

It writes over the pointers and basically creates what appears to be a fresh new card. Deleting photos only can sometimes lead to corruption.

I do it everytime I pop the card into the camera after copying photos from the card. It's just a high level format and doesn't totally write over the entire contents of the card, so you shouldn't have to worry about it shortening your card's life.

I always use USB cable to upload pics to my laptop. Never take the card off my camera. Nikon has a good software for that.

That's generally much slower than using a card reader.

I can honestly say I've never done this before...of course, due to this thread it will happen on my next shoot...

I always carry a few cheap 2 gig cards in my car just in case.
