Hi,
Want to try my hand in b/w can you give me tips on b/w
MY first concern is which image is suitable is for B/W and which is not , and if I am shoting for b/w what to keep in mind.

I just try to visualize what a shot will look like in B&W

You need some light/dark contrast. If your subject stands out because of its color, but is similar in tone to the background, you may have trouble getting a good bw image out of it.

there is also a significant different between conversion methodes.
and like kenC said, a red flower on green grass can turn almost invisible, but if you use "channel mixer" instead of "desaturation"
then you have a bit more control.

What software are you using? CS5? LR3? Gimp? Programs like photoshop and lightroom allow you to alter the brightness and saturation of each color (yellow, red, green, orange, etc). This allows you to tweak the contrast greatly, often resulting in a stronger b&w, say, made in camera.

yes some heavy contrasts images will be helpfull in BW conversion I also thought so, may be I have to keep in mind for now , and I am using PS for b/w conversion ,
