Dedicated B&W Lense?

no, the older cameras don't have the same blocking filter as the newer ones, which gives them the ability to produce an IR image that is why i suggested an older camera.

take a look at the Dimage it will do IR in camera along with Sony and a few others, all because the filtering isn't as strong as cameras made now.

Right, you can get an image but you need a really long exposure time, right?

The filter isn't as good but it's still there. Infared photography is easier either on film or (better) a digital camera with the filter removed
 
the exposure tend to be around 10 sec at an iso of 200, and of course with an 89 filter one can't see what is in the viewfinder; however, the images are terrific with black and white conversions.

I have a converted camera which of course allows handhold and seeing what the lens is seeing.

It all depends on what the image is about which camera i decide to use.
