What is the best DSLR-like Camera for a beginer?

I need to do tons of research because I am getting a camera in 4 days and I don't know what to get.

!!! IM DESPARATE!!!

I have a Canon 350Dslr - and am thrilled with it! plus a lot cheaper than other models and i think it does the job xx

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Casio EX-Z850.

Great little camera (I know, I know, it's a Casio...). Allows full manual operation, huge LCD, produces good images, and about $350-400. Look on pricegrabber.com for the merchant with the best price.

Edit: 8.5 MP too.

SECOND EDIT: Sorry wrong thread!:blushing:

I know Canon has a Powershot S1,S2,S3 IS (review of S3 IS: http://www.dpreview.com/news/0602/06022111canons3is.asp) line which I have heard to be quite impressive. I do know that you can buy extra trinkets to either make it more of a wide angle, telephoto or macro (Here is a link to a photographer who uses an Canon Powershot S2 with a type of extension (?) which helps to make these macros. Amazing work: http://www.flickr.com/photos/spilopterus/152799479/)

Now, there are also less DSLR-like cameras whcih may serve your needs just as well. Recently for a family member I picked up a Canon Powershot A610, and in all honesty, I have been having just as much fun using the wide array of functions and have been neglecting my 350D ;).

Good luck choosing!
