I have the same camera as you and am seriously puzzled by why you're shots look that way. Don't take this the wrong way, but you have to be doing something wrong somewhere. Hang on to the camera, play around with it. Don't expect instant results as stated above. You'll get the hang of it. That camera is capable of taking some great pictures. Also, rounded aperture blades contribute to smoother out of focus, and more perfect circle bokeh.
