These creatures provide a very necessary service for us. They dispose of things that could be very detrimental to the health of not only our pets, but to ourselves as well. They sure get a bum rap, don't they?

Great images.

I like Turkey Vultures. I think they are cool looking bird.

They are actually some of the most judiciously hygienic of large birds.

Very nice images!

Thank you. They are not the prettiest of birds, lol.

Thanks Ray. We have a huge flock of them around here and they roost nearby.

Thanks! Glad you liked them :)

That's cool that you have them roosting. Only seen them flying. There isn't a huge population of them here in MN. Not that I'm aware of, anyway. We have plenty of road kill that you'd think would attract them. But, no. Now that I'm paying attention, I've seen more. On the way home from work tonight, stopped at a traffic light, I watched one soar in the wind. Wasn't much I could do even if the camera was with me. Have no idea were they might be roosting.

I actually saw them on the ground yesterday acting like turkeys. They may have been trying to convince a female to mate, although they did not seem to be after any one bird in particular. This was my first time seeing this.

Love the all black one! Cool shots Dean. The first time I ever saw them on the ground was during a trip to the coast, they were spreading thier wings and soaking up the morning sun. Beautiful birds. :encouragement:

Dirty birds, yes, so FOWL!

I know, that sucked, hee-hee! I'll let myself out.

Nice pics!

I have seen them early in the morning still on the roost with their wings spread. I always assumed they were drying the dew from the feathers. I think the all black ones are juveniles.

You’ll pardon me if I don’t get all agog about their beauty... after you see them attacking, killing, and eating newborn calves a few times, the shine just kinda falls off those magnificent creatures... it can get pretty ugly.
