Do I NEED this lens?

I currently own a Nikon 70-300 and a Nikon 12-24. I'm interested in the 16-85. Do I really need to fill the gap? I think I just want to spend money.

I'm not sure you need to fill the gap with that. If you can spring for it, how about a 24-70 f/2.8? And if not, isn't there a 28-70 f/2.8 that is a bit cheaper, and older? And even so, I'm not sure you need to fill that gap, it really depends on your shooting style. You could pick up a 50mm f/1.8 (cheap, good lens). Or maybe a 60mm macro?

I think you just need to ask yourself, "Do I find myself looking for shots these two lenses don't let me get?"
