Do you guys bring tripods on vacation?

I'm bringing my GF2 instead of my DSLR on vacation because I didn't want to lug around something heavy (plus, I am currently down 1 strap). But since I will be using a bunch of vintage lenses with no IS and the GF2 has pretty awful noise performance I was wondering if a tripod would benefit night time shooting. Do you guys usually bring a tripod and it is a hassle at the airport? Thanks.

"If a tripod would help in night shooting" . Yes of course it's a nasality for low light shots. If you are having issues with noise I am going to take a guess and say you are raising your iso to get enough light for a night shot. If that is correct then you are taking the wrong approach. At tripod will allow you to keep your iso low and slow the shutter instead. Noise problem solved...

As far as taking it on vacation, that's a big yes. I wouldn't leave without it. It will fit in your checked bag and I have flown with it a lot of times and never had a problem. Don't try this with your body or lenses of course but by all means take your tripod. You will be glad you did.

Yes, I do. I bought a nice case for my Manfrotto. There is also room in the case for my monopod if I decide to take them both. My camera equipment is in a Pelican case. I have carried them both on the plane 8 or 10 times and have never had a problem.

I take my 209 tabletop manfrotto with me.
Does not take any space... can even put it in my pants if needed, depends whére in the pants...

Reminder: a night photosession can occur, like every night !
That's just why you need a tripod with you.

I always take it. Throw it in the checked bag and forget about it. I have never had a problem even traveling internationally. As for the other equipment I pack my backpack full and place it in a carry on suit case. That stays with me in the overhead and it works like a champ. I was going to spend all that money on a pelican before I realized this method worked so well.

I've recently acquired a light weight Carbon fiber tripod that is decent and started carrying it. It's compact and fits in my suit case as well as comes with a soft case and sling. I've gotten to where I carry it every where, just sling over my should and go.

I've started to take a tripod to the vacations after my trip to Thailand in 2009. When I and my wife looked at the photos we found out that we got only few photos together. Ofcourse we could ask a stranger to make a photography but sometimes we couldn't find one and sometimes I just didn't want to trust my camera to someone.
And ofcourse some of the most interesting photos I make in vacations are night cityscapes or landscapes which are imposible without a tripod.

Gorillapod is what I bring. Somewhat more annoying to use than a full on tripod, but vastly lighter and smaller. To the extent that I can even just leave it clipped to a camera while carrying it around my neck.

I don't "believe" in tripods per se for just getting a lower noise plain image, but they are still inarguably necessary for long exposures, which I always want to take many of on vacation, especially if near bodies of water.
