Send it to an inkjet printer and I bet it'd print decently. On-screen it looks a bit "crunchy". It does look a bit "affected", on-screen, but not dumb.
 
It doesn't look dumb to me. It looks to me like you jacked the sharpness WAY up.

Did a high pass filter and then overlayed it on the image.

so yeah sharpened.

Not to start anything, but isn't this an example of what we can't post under the terms of TPF? Unless of course you took this shot...

Looks OK, if maybe a tad on the "phony looking" side... a slight reduction of opacity on the overlay would do the trick, methinks.

I think this is a good sharpening technique to know... it also comes in handy for doing the opposite. Simply invert the overlay layer and it'll soften the image, which is good for taking attention away from wrinkles, etc.

Thats how I learned it, doing skin softening.
