I used a Minolta 50/1.4 wide open on a tripod & a mix of natural & indoor light. I set 6 jars in a row leading away from the camera & focused on the third jar away from the camera. I then removed the jars & set the camera to take a shot every 6 seconds which allowed me time to replace the jars one-by-one. The pics were combined into a gif using PhotoScape, a free download.

A side effect that can be learned here is how the scene influences metering. Did you use aperture priority?

Yes!

As I replaced the jars they gradually blocked the light coming from the window opposite the camera.
