I like the depth of tones. The porcelain dolls are creepy. MIL gave my daughter her old doll many years ago. It was sitting in a window ledge and was knocked off with the wind. Daughter didn't like the doll. She was only 4 at the time and it scared her.

Sounds like me, as a kid. I wanted books and toy horses as birthday/holiday presents, and did my child best to make this clear.

The last time I opened a present to see yet another doll, I took it out, tossed it high into the air and gave it a punch as it came down, sending it across the room as I announced: "This doll's name is Punchboard!" I still remember my mom’s expression.

I didn't get any more dolls after that.

Doll-related. Teased a friend's kids a few Christmases ago about the ghastly "Elf on the Shelf' one of their Grannys gave 'em. "He's gonna rat you guys out to Santa. You figure it out..." Charred remains found in the fireplace ashes a few days later. Deepened an old friendship with their Dad who despised the damn things.

To some degree it's my offbeat taste, but it's also gear-driven. I find a DSLR and a bag of lenses inhibiting for my mobile/street style. It also guarantees visibility, something I avoid like measles.
Tiny, 16mp+ APS-C cameras like the Ricoh GR and Fuji X-100 series recreate the sheer fun of an old Nikon FE+50/1.8 from broke-a$$ grad student days. Their great optics and fixed focal lengths
get me every time I shoot them. These cameras rarely intimidate and let people "give" you a shot. The dolls were part of my city's annual downtown "yard sale." The vendor I BS'd with for a few minutes quickly arranged them when I asked for a shot. Just couldn't resist grabbing it!

I concur. Street shooting demands a bit of stealth. I use my Sony a6600 with an inexpensive generic 25mm lens. Fairly small setup and does fine for what I expect from street shots.
