Hmmm... I like the fire escape, but IMO it's getting a bit lost in all the other stuff. A suggestion for a totally different approach:

I think the black on tan stands out more than black on dark grey, it affords a higher level of contrast

.

You can see the areas of lower contrast in the edit.

So I intended just to show my idea of a crop on it, pulling in the sides a little. Then I couldn't help myself and put a few more treatments on it. I think it helps the fire escape pop better, but I like still having the larger context.

You know, I really hate it when an image works better in b/w, and I still don't really understand it.

I'm on board with the rest of the guys. Even just a quick crop seems to change this photo quite a bit.
