Top fuel cars when you're standing a 100 feet up the track, ten feet away from the near car, with just a 3 foot high concrete wall inbetween is without a doubt the most intense feeling, the vibrations go right through your body, it almost hurts. I've always worn really good ear protectors. Jet car is a different sound, not as deep and the same vibration isn't there.

I agree. It's a feeling that is hard to describe to someone that hasn't experienced it. It isn't a sound it's more of a physical assault or something. I honestly think that we could wear 100% hearing blockers and still feel the sound pressure. It's just that intense.

Turbines are unquestionably loud (I was right under an F-15 when it went straight up and kicked into burner) but it's "Different". I can't describe it any other than that.

i love the drag races and usually try to go at least once a year. i have my son hooked on them now. jet cars are awesome to watch, hear and feel the intense heat, but Top Fuel is by far my favorite. if somebody was having a heart attack when these guys launch, the sound pressure waves would defibrilate - no question. As others have stated- you just have to experience it to believe it!

This is one of me from the early 90's. This was just one of the shooting spots. I shot at the top end as well, had to get special permission from the NHRA because of the danger at this one track. I still have pieces of a top fuel motor that blew apart down track from me, all I saw and heard was 300mph pieces of metal bouncing off the guard rail in front of me.
