Dreaded Sigma 70-200mm Autofocus problem

Not sure bringing up a 2 year old thread is worthy - though it has reminded me that we've not seen our crazy parrot lady for ages now! MLEEK where are you!?!?!

In other news 10 years is a long time for many products so its not surprising that if your lens is older that Sigma no longer have components on hand for its upgrading. Note that you can try the 3rd party repair houses, many of them will buy up old stock of lenses or components so that they can continue to service beyond the manufacturers limit.

In addition many new Sigma lenses are now shipping with a cap and USB interface that lets them plug into the computer; thus allowing the easy installation of new lens firmwire and negating the need to rechip when Canon/Nikon make changes to their camera to lens interface.

No, I think the guy might be onto something here. I just discovered that the company that originally made my 8 track tape player doesn't support them any more either, so mark my words - I will never buy another 8 track from them again.

Oh ya, you can bet on that...

When buying used gear, it's buyer beware. Seems you maybe didn't beware enough.

Without knowing why the lens won't focus, no one can tell you how much it will cost to repair, but figure somewhere around $250.

I only buy used... but I only buy used from adorama, keh, Roberts, etc... so I get warranty and a fat return window.

Ha, yeah, after seeing how old this thread was, I was about to say that I don't know why we dredged this up…but it sure does make me miss MLeek, even more than usual! She uploads something every great once in a while to flickr, but that seems to be about it these days.
