Dust on the sensor?

I just don't know where this spot is; In the lens, or the sensor. Can I get a cotton swab and softly go over the sensor with it? without the lens, I can see a spot in the viewfinder. With the lens, I can see a spot in live view. But these spots are both in different areas, so I'm not sure if I have a spec in in the lens and the sensor. If only I had another lens.

Check were you put your eye (whatever the technical name is). Mine always gets dirty. That's prob the spec you see in the viewfinder.

Lock up your mirror and have a look, but I wouldn't put a cotton swap on it. You'd likely leave little fibers on it. Before that you could have a look through your lens off camera to so you can check for internal dust and dust on the back element.

Also, do you have Sensor Cleaning turn on? I have it set to when I turn it off. That might help but it won't necessarily work.

Let's do this.
- Have a lens on the camera.
- Set the aperture to the smallest (larger number such as f/22).
- Take a photo off a white wall or blue sky. (if AF doesn't work, set it to manual focus)
- Review the photo and see if you see any dark spot(s)

NO! Use special cleaner and swabs. Do search on lens cleaning.
