Canon 28-70 f2.8 garnered much appeciation for it's performance but there were a few unfavorable characteristics that many photographers would simply work... just like any other tool....
When the 24-70 f2.8 replaced it, most expressed how pleased they were to see noticeable improvements. So much so, that it remains to be the bread and butter of many wedding photographers.
I find it surprising that dxo rated the older 28-70 f2.8 much higher than the 24-70 that replaced it.
