Easy to use photoshop program?

It's a beta version and is only good until Lightroom 3 ships, which I believe they said was in April, in case this is helpful to anyone.

Paint.NET is what I use for image editing and it is a noob friendly and doesn't cost a penny but it is only available on Windows. For Linux and Mac "Gimp" and "Photoshop elements 8" are good.

So I suppose now my question would shift to, what is the best way to go about learning what there is to do with Photoshop Elements 6, are any of you formally educated on the program or do you learn by playing around with it? I picked up a few quick things from the little video tutorials Adobe has on the website but I am aware that they are only the very small tip of the iceberg. Thanks for all of your tips, everyone has been extremely helpful. =)
