Eerie Root formation..C&C plz

As I was on a hike a couple days ago while camping in upstate NY I came across this awesome root formation. Unfortunately, I didn't get the "creatively correct" exposure I wanted for the right shot. As you can see the first and second shot I really like cause they capture the creepiness of the root formation, except that feeling is ruined by the sunlight. I finally got the exposure I like in the third and fourth shots but I didn't get the composition right. AHHH. Tell me what you think and offer some advice if you want.

None of these really do anything for me to be honest... Might be one of those views that were great in person but almost impossible to capture on camera.

Just not feeling the creepiness.
