These were some portraits I shot for a friend. Normally I try not to shoot wide open for headshots, but lately it's a look that I've really been enjoying.
These were all done in natural light with no reflectors. It wasn't a planned shoot so I wasn't prepared with my reflector. Shot on a Canon 5D Classic (MKI) with a Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 lens.

Settings: f/1.4, 1/160th sec, ISO 500.

In the first one it works for me. The other two have to much oof area that it becomes distracting especially the collar, for some weird reason my eyes keep going to the collar. Then once I notice the collar I notice the ears. But that is my own newbie opinion.

Thanks for the feedback. The collar bugs me a bit in the 2nd one because the lines really grab my attention as well. The ears don't even catch my attention though.

I think whats happening, at least to me, is that when my eye is drawn to the collar I really notice the oof in the whole bottom half of the image, which is quite a large area, then my eyes start looking to see what else is oof and thats when I notice the ears. #3 is no where as bad as #2 is for me and maybe it wouldn't bother me at all if I didn't see #2 first.
