Hi there everyone, im wanting to buy an dSLR and i need help!

i have a budget of around £450 (around $700) MAXIMUM preferably lower, i want a camera which takes AMAZING pictures but is easy and simple to use. i dont mind it taking a little manual labour to achieve full picture potential but i dont know that much about different lenses etc., so a camera which takes overall outstanding pictures would be perfect!

I have been looking at some cameras but im thinking that you guys are the real experts!
thanks alot and MERRY CHRISTMAS :bigangel:

AMAZING... ...overall outstanding pictures
Just to start off cameras don't take great photos, people do. That being said having a good camera can't help.

May I suggest a Nikon D3100, its a great camera, decent iso performance, auto-focus video, 14mp and its Nikon so its got great build quality. Its within your price range although within the upper end of it. They'll be plenty of guides and people willing to help you how to learn, its entry level so its really easy to use.

As far as lenses it really depends on what you are looking to do with your camera. It will come with a 18-55mm which is a perfect all round however if you want to say use it with your kids or sports may I suggest a Nikon 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6 VR its so popular its often sold out!

Making "AMAZING pictures" is not "easy and simple".

Statements like "so a camera which takes overall outstanding pictures" indicates you have unrealistic expectations and believe photography is all about the equipment, requireing little skill or effort.

Hardly. It's all about the wetware between the camera strap and the viewfinder.

Most advanced photograpers have multiple lenses. Many have multiple camera bodies.

The Nikon D3100 is a good starter camera. So is the older Nikon D40 which isn't made new anymore.

With your budget I would suggest you seriously consider a used camera body so you can get at least a couple of lenses, a hot shoe flash unit, a good camera bag, memory cards, etc.

I would love to see you get a new D3100 with a good warranty and tons of support but KmH pointed out a list of extra expenses that we (I) forget about.

you would do best to get a $500 camera and a shoe mount flash OR $500 camera and an upgraded lens, rather than a $700 camera...

Its something I also over looked. A second hand D3000 would work or maybe an older second hand body!
