I tried fly fishing once ... I was about 12yrs old, with a spinning reel ... I don't have to say that it did not work out that well, especially when I had to get a barbed hook stuck on my jeans.

Just be glad it was your jeans. Really hard to get a first aid kit, needle nosed pliers and a sharp knife passed your mother when your younger brother has one buried in his thumb. Don't ask how I know this. And don't ask how it actually came out. You won't like the answer.

Hmm, I think you think you KNOW.
I have never had one in my thumb ... but I have had hooks extracted from other body parts, luckily the barb never got deep.
