Environmental Cowboy/Girl Portraits

I went to my hometown colt branding a few weekends ago to document the event as a small project, and while I was there I got a few portraits of some of the people who made it all happen.


Jim Bo Humphreys helped drive and work the cattle. As can be surmised from this photo, he's not some dime store cowboy, haha.





This is Kim Lindsey. She's a barrel racing champion as well as the director for the Texas Tech Equestrian Center. She's a woman of few words, but she knows her stuff when it comes to horse and ranch management.

The first two are bangers! Shame about the hat shadow in the third.

Nice - I love the look in #1, but I really wish we could see the horse's head. #2 is a great composition; perfect use of leading lines, but I think your flash is a little hot, and the reflection in the glasses is rather harsh. In #3 cropping away a bit of the horse's butt would move her out of the centre and make a good image that much stronger.

Yeah I was thinking about that in the first photo, and I have some with the horse's head, but since this was shot with the X100S, which is 35mm equiv., it made the horse's head huge and Jim's head tiny in comparison. :/

Yeah I wish it wasn't there. I would have moved the horse and her to better location where the sun was shining on her shirt instead of being behind her, but that was the only horse left and I wasn't sure whose it was haha.

Heh easier said than done. I tried lightening it but it just looks odd. XP
