Equipment List for Beginners

Hi all,

My name is Jerry, and I am working on a project to find photography equipment products that will help beginners get into photography. Whether it is using their smartphone, point-and-shoot, or dslr, what functional equipment (aside from the actual camera and lenses) would you guys recommend for beginners?

For disclosure, I am a product curator. We are looking to bring photography related products to our store to get more people interested in photography. Your suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Could see you going wrong with getting hold of some traditional processing gear - its magic. From agitating B&W film in dev tanks to making your own prints with enlargers. The whole paper, chemicals, exposure and craft is something that really captivates beginners. It did with me, it also sowed the seed with my fascination with gadgets and equipment - but thats off on a tangent!

Well that entirely depends on what type of photography woolen want to do.

The equipment I would use for wildlife photography would be vary different then what I would want for product photography.

That's right. We're not selling photography gear right now, but we want to launch a campaign to encourage people to become more interested in photography, because we think that's an important lifestyle category. People who visit our site are generally interested in design and arts, so I thought photography would suit them as well.

When we do launch the campaign for photography gear, it would for sure be carefully chosen, and it would have a dedicated page. I am in charge of figuring this out, and that's why I wanted to reach out to the community to see what you guys think would help people become more interested in photography if they are already interested in design and aesthetics.

You need to be asking people who casually use photography not the people here where photography is ether their profession or a BIG hobby. The people here are NOT going to be shopping for photography gear on a small web store that also sells juicers.
Serious photographer like you will fins here shop for their gear at places that specialize in photography gear.

Your store is NOT the kind of store to carry the full line up of Canon and Nikon camera bodies and all the lenses they make. The type of items people may by from you are mobile phone camera accessories, and not many people here keep up on those.
