Event photography and flash diffusers

Hello,

I am a natural light photographer, but I am starting to get into event photography. I have a Canon Mark III and the my external flash is a Speedlight 430EX II. The flash can be quite harsh so I'm interested in learning more about diffusers. I have seen event photographer using diffusers and equipment allowing them to hold their flash up when they take photos. Can anyone point me in the right direction for this time of photography? Thank you.
