I've been invited to the Everglades to go shooting. It's a place I've wanted to go since... forever, so I'm pretty psyched.

My understanding is that, since it's getting into the dry season, the wildlife tends to venture closer to areas where we humans might hang out. I'll have a guide and, possibly, an airboat at my disposal.

Has anyone here shot there? I'd like to get as far away from the "touristy" areas as possible, but also don't want to be so remote that when a 15' gator jumps on the boat it'll be weeks before they locate what's left of my body.

Suggestions?

bring a gun. you shouldn't have a problem with that

Nope never been there but I am jealous. I have a feeling your going to capture some fantastic shots there and Don't the forget bug spray.

I've never been there either, but its the giant snake that eats alligators that you really have to worry about. But seriously, if you can legally and responsibly and comfortably take a firearm or a person with a firearm for "just in case" I would.

I can't wait to see what shots you come back with....camera shots....not gator shots....well maybe shots of gators....

I don't believe you're allowed to carry one in a national park.

But I do all kinds of stuff I'm not supposed to do...

;)
when someone walks up and asks you about shooting just say "yeah, I heard that. I think it came from somewhere over there. " and point.

#1 on my bucket list. Enjoy and bring us back lots of photos.

Well, that's the plan.

Not sure when I'll be going. I was up for next week, but my buddy is Jewish, and next week is Passover. Then I'll be in North Carolina for a couple weeks.

I want to get down there as soon as possible, though, so it doesn't begin to impact other plans I've made...

Lots of deep woods off, the skeeters are more dangerous than the gators and usually almost as big.

Also if you pay the guide everything in advance he has less incentive to get you back to the dock in one piece... lol

Good luck, looking forward to seeing some pics from the trip

"I am so tough and stringy no gator would wanna eat me." Juuuuust keep telling yourself that, over and over, like a mantra....

Be ready for bugs. Lots of them.

Bring drybags for your gear and fresh water in case you get any salt on your lens. If you're going through on an airboat, bring a solid tripod. They're surprisingly stable boats when not moving and you might get to mess with slightly longer exposures than you'd expect.

Remember the 2 rules of dealing with wild carnivores:
1. You only have to be as fast as the slowest person in the group.
2. Don't be the slowest person in the group.
:lmao:
