Can a 72mm expodisc be used in place of a 72mm and work just as well...minus having to hold the disc in place. Pros/Cons?

What I ment to ask is...I have the 18-200mm lens which has a 72mm lens ring/filter. Can I use a 77mm expodisc (larger than the lens ring) Pros/Cons?

I have read that some suggest purchasing 1 expodisc for the largest lens one owns and then use that same expodisc on smaller lens(s) one owns. But does this lead to problems like excess light sneaking in when using a larger expodisc on a smaller lens than needed...causing light to sneak in, causing not as accurate readings, etc...?

Just hold it up against the lens. If you wanna get picky, use a 72-77mm step-up ring.

I use the expo disk in a manner that you mentioned and works like it should. Although I use my calibration target from Photovision more becouse I get better results. And really the only time I need a custom wb is shooting in mixed light conditions.
