You haven't asked what I meant by perfect. But anyway if you think you can get a 'perfect' sunset shot good for you then ;-)

Getting land and sky into the same photo has been a problem since literally the first days of photography. There are a lot of ways to skin this particular cat. All can provide excellent results. Arguing about which one is "better" is silly.

Your method may be better for you, indeed, I rather hope it is, but if you think it is objectively better, you are just wrong.

No multiple exposures.
No HDR or exposure blending.

Just a processed raw capture, and an old 12 bit one -- can do better now with newer tech.

While a good example, the exposure difference between sky and foreground is minimal. You could never do this with a 5 stop difference, which is what I often encounter.

The exposure difference between the highlights in the sky and the shadows I lifted is 6 stops (see histogram). And that's old 12 bit tech. I can do much better now with the 14 bit A/D converters in my modern cameras.

I think I get what your talking about, OP.

I've had pretty decent luck using a single photo, converted to different exposure levels in RAW converter then blending using masks in PS. It IS totally time consuming, especially if there's a lot of range in your photos. The one photo I went back and did several different exposure conversions (8 or 9, maybe) and it took about 6 hours total for me to get it where I wanted.
