Eyes not in focus

What focus mode should I be using? I haven't had much experience with an adult's portraits; just mostly been practicing in friends' toddlers. Often the focus will be on a necklace they wear or the trim on their neckline. They constantly move, so I've just been leaving the focus on Af-a...but then the eyes won't be sharp or in focus. What can I do?

Use a single AF point, place it over the nearest eye and practice. A LOT. Ensure that you use a shutter speed fast enough to stop motion, and an aperture sufficient to allow for slight movement.
