#4 is my winner. I'd like #2 better if he wasn't holding string. To me it just seems like something he could strangle himself with lol.

Curious how you set your WB. There is a magenta cast in all of these, not unlike the set of the 1 yr old you posted a couple days ago. It's not as strong though. I notice it most in 2 and 4.

It could just be my processing. I'll have to look.. Some of my presets I've made in light room purposely have some super light purple ish overlay to them. I have like 20 made that I use as starting points for my edits, all slightly different. Wb I'm doing in post entirely. I have auto set in camera. I tried doing some custom wb in the past with a tissue and just felt it was always way too warm for my taste for some reason. I should probably give that a go again. Lol

His mama wanted him holding the string.. I'm not 100% sure but their was a great deal of religious symbolism for their family for him to be photographed with the tallit (?) and she wanted him holding the strings.

With some of the baby photography out there I'm glad to see some using appropriate positioning for the baby (my background's in child development birth to three). I think though you might need to think about the perspective etc. - the first one seems a bit awkward, there's a dark shadow? or something behind him, not sure where his arms are positioned. And the one with two blue blankets I wonder if it would have been better with the other hand showing, or maybe a different angle or arrangement of the blanket that trails off into the distance.

Using a cloth or blanket with stripes I think might work better if the fabric's arranged to display the pattern so it doesn't look bunched; I wondered about the fringe too but if that's part of what the parent wants in the photo it might have helped to arrange the strings a little differently.

I think maybe the hat makes the photo seem awkward, it might be that it's kind of big or didn't quite sit on his head well (maybe because of the brim? that seems like it would be tricky to position when he's laying down).

well, you already know that i personally prefer more DOF in baby pictures, so i wont linger on that point.

I think #4 and #5 are the strongest.
#1 is really fine, but i like more DOF in the horizontal (ish) shots so there's more than just the babys face in focus where all or most of the baby is visible. This is just a personal preference.
#2 is nice, but i think you should have either pulled back a little, or down more and gotten the rest of the baby in the shot at the expense of some of the space at the top.
#3 i would have loved with more DOF. (I know I know...im such a DOF whore) BUT! i find the baby's OOF left hand distracting in that shot. (and maybe the OOF baby blanket trail) i think bringing it IN focus would have looked a little better.
#4 is a great shot. just enough DOF for the horizontal baby to be in focus, while making the background OOF.
#5 is also great. i think i am seeing a hair OOF at the babys feet. maybe motion blur? or just the edge of the DOF? either way, I like this one.

Overall this is a really nice set. I like the lighting on all of them, and I like the contrast levels. Bright is a good look for baby. very nicely done!

Thank you both for the detailed critiques! Pixmedic, I did take a few at one point with more DOF. I will have to find one to share.. just for you! lol I too wish there were more DOF, at least in the last one where you see the baby's full body.. the feet were OOF because of my shallow DOF in all of those shot in that styling. ;\ boooooo and the reason his arms were kept out of frame in most is because he was adamant about having them in his mouth 24/7 if not. Definitely taking in all these comments though, thank you so much!!
